I am going bald while studying for this media law exam I have tomorrow. My textbook is the size of an encyclopedia and has created a dent in my lap as I read it, and re-read it. As a student of this fine journalism program I am at liberty to know the law of the media and the terms in which I should report and write. While I understand the importance of this, I cannot help but be a little grouchy about the situation. I am privileged to have a Yale law alumnus teaching me the way of the law, but my brain has not yet been trained to comprehend certain areas of this field. There is a reason I am not in law school, and I have made it more clear to myself than ever before.
Even though I am in a twist of confusion at times, I have to admit that I am enjoying my new gain of knowledge. I even feel a little clever when I can recite a summary of an important case and explain why it is important to the history of media law.
If you're in a legal mood, pick up The First Amendment and The Fourth Estate. One of the three authors is my professor, so I really have to know my stuff. He wrote parts of the book for God's sake.
I'm off to figure out how to study some more between my internship and work today. Tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. ET, wish me luck. I may need it.
More fine things to come...
